NSW SES Minor Flood Bulletin No 01 - Orara River at Glenreagh and Coutts Crossing
What is happening?
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GLENREAGH AND COUTTS CROSSING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
Moderate to heavy rainfall since Tuesday afternoon across the Orara River, has caused river level rises upstream of Glenreagh. The Orara River at Karangi peaked near 2.5 metres around 5:00 AM Wednesday morning. The peak is expected to reach Glenreagh Wednesday afternoon.
Further heavy rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Wednesday. This situation is being closely monitored and revised predictions will be provided as necessary.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for the Mid North Coast and parts of the Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts.
What we are expecting:
- Low lying farmland may be affected, farmers are advised to monitor equipment and livestock.
At Glenreagh
The Orara River at Glenreagh Automatic Gauge may reach the minor flood level (5.00 m) Wednesday afternoon. Further rises possible
The Orara River at Glenreagh Bridge (manual flood gauge) may reach the minor flood level (4.00 m) Wednesday afternoon. Further rises possible.
At Coutts Crossing
The Orara River at Coutts Crossing may reach the minor flood level (5.00 m) late Wednesday. Further rises possible
- Low lying farmland may be affected, farmers are advised to monitor equipment and livestock.
- Water may be over road at McPhersons Crossing 3km North East of Coutts Crossing
- Rushforth Road, at Poley Bridge, 5km northwest of Coutts Crossing village may close
What you need to do:
- People in areas likely to be impacted by flooding should consider:
- Refraining from driving or walking through flood water
- The impact of possible road closures and flood isolation on work, family and educational commitments
- Monitoring emergency warnings and severe weather updates on local ABC radio, NSW SES Northern Rivers Facebook Page and Bureau of Meteorology website
- If your property is at risk of inundation, please raise moveable items, such as furniture, as high as possible onto benches or tables, placing electrical items on top
- If you live in a low-lying area and are advised by an emergency services officer to evacuate, please do so
- Securing outside belongings and before leaving; turn off the power, water and take essential medicines and clothes with you
